Australian High Commission World Oceans Day Photography Competition
The Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka and Maldives is proud to present a photography competition in celebration of World Oceans Day commencing on 8 June 2021. World Oceans Day is a day for humanity to celebrate the ocean and our relationship with it.
The theme of World Oceans Day 2021 – ‘the ocean: lives and livelihoods’ – is particularly relevant to all of us in Sri Lanka and Maldives, where the oceans are an inextricable part of our existence.
The competition will look to highlight the unique beauty of Sri Lanka and Maldives’ marine environment and the challenges faced by it, today.
We invite all Sri Lankan and Maldivian citizens or permanent residents to enter.
HOW IT WORKS
The World Oceans Day Photography Competition will run from Thursday 8 June to Wednesday 14 June 2021 on the Australian High Commission’s Instagram page (@AusHCSriLankaMaldives).
To be in the running, participants will need to:
1. Follow the Australian High Commission’s Instagram page (@AusHCSriLankaMaldives)
2. Post a picture of an ocean or a beach (that you have taken yourself!) on Instagram, with a description of what that picture means to you
3. Tag the Australian High Commission Instagram on the photo and use the hashtag #WorldOceanDayAusHC
The photo must be taken by the entrant, and cannot be a copyrighted work. By entering the photo into the competition, the entrant gives the Australian High Commission permission to post the photo on its social media channels.

WHO CAN ENTER
To be eligible for the competition, participants must:
- Be a Sri Lankan or a Maldivian citizen or Sri Lankan or Maldivian permanent resident, currently residing in Sri Lanka and/or Maldives; and
- Follow the Australian High Commission on our Instagram page.
SELECTION AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF WINNERS
Three winning photos will be selected from among the entries and will win a special prize bundle from the Australian High Commission.
Winners will be selected by the Australian High Commissioner and/or other staff of the Australian High Commission, Colombo.
Entries may be judged on a range of criteria, including the photo’s aesthetic qualities, creativity or environmental message. The judges’ decisions are final.
The winners will be announced on the Australian High Commission’s Instagram (@AusHCSriLankaMaldives) and Facebook pages at 4.00pm (SLST) on Friday 16 June 2021.
