Research and Public Diplomacy Officer

The Australian High Commission in Colombo invites applications for suitably qualified and motivated candidates to fill the above position.

Main duties include:

  • Research and monitor political and economic developments

  • Prepare reports on policy, economic, trade and media issues

  • Monitor and translate Tamil, Sinhala and English media reporting on issues of relevance

  • Organise and report on public diplomacy events

  • Draft and circulate media releases

  • Develop a broad network of contacts relevant to the section’s work

  • Assess and evaluate applications to the High Commission’s Direct Aid Program

  • Monitor projects funded under the Direct Aid Program

  • Manage the High Commission’s website

  • Provide consular support

  • Provide Tamil and Sinhalese translations to and from English

Selection Criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualification and relevant professional experience.

  2. High level analytical ability and excellent oral and written communication skills (shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake a writing test in English).

  3. Fluency in the English, Tamil and Sinhala languages.

  4. Sound knowledge of Sri Lankan politics.

  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team to achieve outcomes.

  6. Computer skills, particularly with MS Word and Excel.

  7. Demonstrated time management and organisational skills. Accuracy and attention to detail.

  8. High level of integrity, discretion and understanding of ethics.

The salary offered will range from 100,099 – 121,119 LKR per month, depending on experience and performance during probationary period, plus other benefits. Offers of employment are dependent on a satisfactory security assessment and clearance.
