Federal Election 2010
The federal election will be held on Saturday 21 August 2010.
You will be able to vote either in person at the Australian High Commission, Colombo, or by applying for a postal vote. You will need to know which Australian address you are currently enrolled at in order to be issued with the correct ballot papers for your electorate. You can check at www.aec.gov.au/check or by calling +61 2 6271 4411.
The Australian High Commission in Colombo, 21 Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7, will be conducting pre-poll voting on:
Monday 9 August 2010 0900-1600
Tuesday 10 August 2010 0900-1600
Wednesday 11 August 2010 0900-1600
Thursday 12 August 2010 0900-1600
Friday 13 August 2010 0900-1600
Saturday 14 August 2010 CLOSED
Sunday 15 August 2010 CLOSED
Monday 16 August 2010 0900-1600
Tuesday 17 August 2010 0900-1600
Wednesday 18 August 2010 0900-1600
Thursday 19 August 2010 0900-1600
Friday 20 August 2010 0900-1600
Please note that you will not be able to cast your vote on polling day due to the time difference between Australia and Sri Lanka.
For security purposes only, please bring with you identification (for example your Australian passport) for ID presentation at the front gate of the High Commission.
Alternatively, you can apply for a postal vote by going to www.aec.gov.au and completing an “Application for a postal vote” form. Postal vote applications are also available from the Australian High Commission, Colombo. The Australian High Commission Colombo will accept postal vote applications until Thursday 19 August. Your ballot papers will then be sent to you to complete and post back. If you opt for a postal vote, apply now so that we can get your ballot papers to you in time.
If you are unable to attend an overseas voting centre or complete a postal vote you should notify the AEC by emailing [email protected].
